Investigation of the Continuity between Industry and Nature, Environment, and Industrial Landscape (Case Study: Iranian Air Conditioning Company) Tehran-Shahriar. Journal title 2024; 29 (92) URL: http://journalabadi.ir/article-1-51-en.html
The growth and expansion of large industrial cities and the unchecked development of suburban areas have led to the proximity of residential and industrial fabrics. Shahriar County in Tehran Province is considered one of the agricultural hubs of the region, which has seen an increase in industrial activity in recent years. Given the location of the Iranian Air Conditioning Company within a residential area and gardens, along with the advancement of industry in the pristine nature of Shahriar County, there is a need to establish a balance between the man-made environment and nature.Ecological functions should be considered to prevent environmental degradation. The presence of industrial activities in residential areas causes environmental issues such as visual pollution, noise pollution, and water contamination resulting from chemicals and untreated industrial wastewater, which ultimately disrupts the environmental peace of the residents and employees in this industry. The main objective of this research is to revitalize the industrial landscape, preserve and maintain low-risk industrial activities, and transfer, review, and reform environmentally damaging industrial activities to improve the ecological quality of the region and create continuity between industry and nature. This study employs a combined (descriptive-analytical) methodology and is also application-based. The qualitative criterion of the research is assisted by content analysis based on the “Values and Factors of Landscape” (FVFL) model, which is based on the integration of three factors: natural factors, man-made factors, and behavioral factors. Data collection involved reviewing specialized texts through library studies, field visits, site observations, photo interpretation, and searching online and within the geographical information database (GIS) of Shahriar County. By relocating non-environmentally friendly and undesirable industrial activities, the ecological quality of the region can be enhanced, improving the comfort of the residents in the residential fabric. Three activities identified are:
The design and production of initial molds for fiberglass cooling towers.
The baking of fiberglass equipment in high-temperature ovens.
The introduction of granules into plastic injection machines for producing plastic components such as nozzles, drip trays, and packing for cooling towers.
These activities are recognized as non-biological and harmful to adjacent fabrics, necessitating a review of waste treatment methods, including granulation, which is non-biodegradable, and the implementation of filters to prevent air pollution according to environmental regulations, as well as maintaining a distance from residential and agricultural areas. For ecological restoration and continuity between industry and nature, ecological networks are required through connecting patches and corridors and linking them to the surrounding natural environment. To this end, using green networks and native species will connect the edges of the residential fabric, serving as a binding layer to prevent visual pollution and act as a barrier against noise pollution from industrial activities and undesirable winds. Coexisting with nature, utilizing recycled resources, employing renewable materials in harmony with nature, and using clean and environmentally friendly energy are all impactful steps towards the ecological restoration of the region.
